Living on the Third Floor...

We were sitting on the couch late one night when we heard something fall out of the kitchen cupboard. I looked over and it was the unfrozen otter pops. I went to put them back into the cupboard only to find that one of the green ones split open and was leaking all over the place. As I was cleaning the mess with paper towels I commented to Greg that we needed to take the garbage out. So he threw on some flip flops and headed out the back door with the garbage can. I'm still on the floor cleaning up the green mess by the back door and her a horrible falling sound and an ouch. I run out the door to see Greg slowly walking to pick up a few pieces of garbage that fell out of the bin. Yes, he biffed it on the ice on the back stairs. Luckily he was okay except for a large scratch along his right arm and few other little scratches on his legs.
The Moral of the story:  Don't take the trash out after dark when you live on the third floor and you have to go down an old rickety set of stairs to get to the dumpster, especially if it snowed earlier that day.

♥ Valentine's Day ♥

Since Valentine's day was on Sunday we went out for dinner on Saturday. Most people in Provo had the same idea. We got to Olive garden at 3:30 and the wait time was already 40 minutes long.  We ate entirely too much food, but it was so good. Afterward, we exchanged gifts. Greg took me to Smith's and I picked out some flowers. Yes, they are potted flower, so they don't die by next week.  (Side note: We stopped in a flower shop and saw that One dozen roses cost $42 dollars. That's a little pricey for something that's going to die next week.)
Greg did a lot better getting something for me than I did for him. I got him a box of Junior Mints. In my defense they were heart shaped and I figured that they would taste better than the little candy hearts with the messages on them, and we weren't really going to get anything for each other anyway.

I wasn't going to skip celebrating Valentine's day on Valentine's day, because it was Sunday. I made Greg a nice dinner, which makes up for the bad gift.  I made Chicken Cordon Bleu complete with green beans, butter and herb mashed potatoes (from a pouch), Rhodes Rolls and  fancy little Valentine's cups.  For dessert I made some strawberry tarts. I had to fudge the recipe and use graham crackers for the crust and frozen strawberries since I don't keep Oreos or fresh strawberries on hand. But it was still tastey and definitely worthy of trying again...with the Oreos.
Basically, it was a very nice Valentine's Day.

Good Eat's

Life has been a little boring lately, so I haven't had anything exciting to blog about, except the new couch, which I am thoroughly enjoying.  Well, I found something to blog about. It's still not horribly exciting, but it's something.

So I like to cook and have been busy cooking this week.   On Sunday, we had a little Super bowl party. We made a big batch of white bread dough and rolled out a little bit of it and made some home made pizza.  There was a lot of left over dough so we fried some of it up and made scones.

I'm always looking for new recipes.  I've found some great websites.  Yesterday, on one particular website,  Our Best Bites I found a recipe for fortune cookies.  I just had to try to make them, because Greg loves fortune cookies.  There's no picture of the results, because we ate the whole batch in one sitting, and they were rather hidious. The lady that posted the recipe did say that it takes a few tries to get them right, so maybe they'll look better next. They still tasted good though.

Today, I tried a recipe I found on Kraft Foods, one of my favorite websites. The recipe was for bacon and baked potato soup. It was delicious and tasted a lot better than the cheesy broccoli soup I found on the website a couple week ago. Next recipe to try is the mini chocolate cheesecakes.

Like I said, I'm always looking for new recipes, so if you know of any good cooking websites or have any great recipes you are willing to share send them my way.

As they say in czech: Dobrou chut' (or in french: bon appetit!)

Comfy Couch

Today we did a little bit of running around. We drove up to the Shane Company to get our wedding rings cleaned and checked.  We stopped at the Macey's to get a few groceries we needed for our little Super Bowl party tomorrow.  We are planning on making pizza so I thought I'd stop in the Big Lot's next to the Macey's to see if they had some cheep round pizza pans, so I didn't have to make a giant rectangle pizza. No luck on the pizza pans, but while we wandered around the store we found some Serta pillows. We grabbed a couple since our pillows were in sad shape and then we walked by the furniture section.... Turns out there was this amazing sale going on; all of the furniture was 40% off and this one couch was just so comfy. We've debated getting a couch before, because we had a tiny little love seat. Our apartment is so small and we aren't going to be in for a lot longer, so we would just have to move whatever we bought. Well, we've never felt an urgent need to get a bigger sofa.  Well, this sale at Big Lot's was just too good and with the prospect of a tax return coming in the near future we impulsively decided to buy a new couch and a couple of throw pillows.  Getting it home in our CRV and up the stairs was a small adventure, but now that it's here we are so glad we bought it.  Now, off to D.I with the old love seat and the grocery store again because I didn't take a list and forgot to buy cheese for the pizza.
